Exploring the causes of infertility
The Lexington Fertility Center team understands how frustrating it can be for patients struggling to conceive, especially after months of trying only to see yet another negative pregnancy test. Our Lexington fertility specialist will work closely with you to diagnose and treat the causes of infertility.
Causes of infertility are different for everyone
Our Lexington fertility specialist George Veloudis DO takes the time to visit with each patient and answer questions about the causes of infertility. Many couples will not get pregnant right away, but most will conceive within a few months by maintaining a healthy lifestyle and timed intercourse.
For the one in seven American couples who will experience infertility at some point, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine offers these guidelines:
- Women under the age of 35 should visit a fertility specialist after trying to conceive for one year.
- Women over the age of 35 should make an appointment with a fertility specialist after trying to conceive for six months.
Take the first step to overcome infertility
Just as every patient is different, the causes of infertility vary. If you have a history of irregular or painful periods, pelvic disease, uterine fibroids or polyps, our Lexington fertility specialist suggests scheduling a consultation and fertility evaluation when you’re ready to conceive.
At your initial appointment with The Lexington Fertility Center, we will discuss your medical history. Next, we will schedule fertility blood tests and nonsurgical diagnostic studies such as a pelvic sonogram and a hysterosalpingogram, or HSG. Additionally, Dr. Veloudis may recommend minimally invasive fertility surgery, if needed, to treat problems such as fibroids, polyps and tubal issues.
Our Lexington fertility specialist will also order a semen analysis to rule out male factor infertility in your partner, one of the contributing causes of infertility for couples struggling to become pregnant.
Most cases of infertility will resolve with intrauterine insemination or ovulation induction, with no need for more advanced assisted reproductive technology.
Regardless of the causes of infertility, our Lexington fertility specialist and the caring team at The Lexington Fertility Center are here for you.
